The Nested Selves: Conicals

The Nested Selves: Conicals, 2009

Installation

Artist statement:

“The Nested Selves was composed as a journey into the Self, and begins with the conical as a moving vortex. Each persona is gradually revealed through a series of monologues, interactions with visitors in studio performances, and in public interventions.

In my performances, installations and videos, I recite and improvise a narrative that is referential to autobiographical and historical accounts I associate with each persona character. The “Theater of Self”, is a script that grows with each persona performance that brings further definition to each individual character.

I draw maps, constructions, and figures in motion within landscapes and virtual spaces; craft paper conical models and string balls into globular loops and knots that visualize an entangled journey. I interact with audience members using these props as devices to explain my ideas and as props to identify the personas characteristics.”
