Dance Memoir Performance, 2018

Documentary image
Dance Memoir was a tribute to free style dancing in New York City. The image depicts the performance at rush hour late Friday afternoon with random participants dancing where the performance was cited at Union Square in part of the Art in Odd Places Performance Festival in NYC (2018). The performance took place for three days, two to four hours per time. The piece reflects on Dance as resilience and self-expression of the body where people unfold from their daily life. I paid homage to clubs that promoted diversity in the 1980’s. Music projected from a music box were selected from a DJ playlist. The music station was borrowed from the Westbeth exhibition for each performance period.
